[Budget] Reward Proposal for Community DAO Members and Bounties for July-Sept

Context

In order to solidify Ref Finance’s mission to be a community-driven project, the Ref DAO was formed early July of 2021, consisting of various ecosystem partners and community members, who had been contributing to the Ref project as early as May. Ever since its inception, members of the Community Board of the DAO have not only been challenging and voting the Council’s proposals, but also contributing to the core activities of the project, including (but not limited to):

  • Project management: planning and documentation
  • Product testing: unit testing and end-to-end testing
  • Product strategy: benchmark and market analysis
  • User support and community moderation
  • PR and Communication

Above activities are critical to the success of any open-source and community-driven project.

Reward Proposal for the Months of July, August, and September

Objectives

  1. Reward active and committed Community Board members
  2. Identify and reward top contributors for ‘specific works’ and ‘key deliverables’
  3. Reward non-DAO members who have completed specific tasks

This proposal suggests that Ref’s Community Board members get rewarded based on a two-tiered structure. “Active and committed Community Board members” belong to Tier 1, the rewards of which are capped at 200 REF / month. "Top contributors for ‘specific works’ and ‘key deliverables’ belong to Tier 2, the rewards of which are capped at 600 REF / month. Any active member will belong to either Tier 1 or Tier 2, based on their contributions that month.

For specific tasks (such as Telegram moderation, community management, and translation), bounties will be offered to each individual for these corresponding months.

1. Reward active and committed Community Board members [Tier 1]

As recently defined in the Ref Finance’s Wiki, Being a Community Board member involves responsibilities. This includes:

  • Challenging Council’s proposals
  • Sharing his / her opinion(s) on different topics raised by the Community
  • Being proactive and acting in the protocol’s best interests
  • Exercising independent judgement (Board members should not be delegates who simply implement the commands of other parties)
  • Exercising his / her voting right
  • Participating to the weekly community call

Based on these contributions, we propose the following reward structure:

  • Amount: capped to 200 REF per Community Board member / month

  • Payment: at the end of the month

adding a little bit of context,

the initial thought was, 5% of the dev fund, or 0.5% of total token supply vested across 50 months, will be used for community building and community members incentives to take extra initiatives.

It will be a learning process for the general ref community to propose what would be the best possible to manage these fund, thus far, we see performance based tiered payout to individuals.

Your approach and (almost) every post you have made so far are non-constructive and toxic to the community.

The community Board is open to anyone who demonstrates interest, brings added value and above all has the “ability” to engage with members in a constructive fashion.

Regarding your question on the police report, we are still in the process of getting the police report done, thks to one of our community board members. We have identified a lawyer who is willing to get it done for us and we are waiting for his greenlight. We will update the community once we have made progress on this matter.

I’m an early Ref.Finance user, just was surprised how councils and board members were elected. Absolutely not transparent . As a major Ref.Finance holder I aslo have a right to know this information. Following Ref Finance inception / deployment around March 2021, Proximity Labs, a research and development company focused on NEAR, received a grant from the NEAR foundation to bootstrap and scale Ref Finance.

Early June, Proximity set up the Ref DAO and its community board. Community Board members were selected based on their value and activity across the different channels (mainly Telegram and Discord). In my personal case, I was simply making general feedback and suggestions to develop the protocol, along with providing insights and data (what will became after Sodaki). Prior to that, I have never had personal connections or interests with Poximity and its team members.

As mentioned before, the DAO is set to evolve and welcome new members. Plus, from my personal point of view, I think it is healthy that some chairs renew themselves or in other words, that we have a good turnover to encourage objectivity and diversification.

Finally, and as I explained before, the best way to get closer to the governance system is simply to start contributing. The Telegram channel is active and welcomes any active participation.
